Kindergarten Spelling Words

Kindergarten is where spelling starts to click. The words here are short, mostly three letters, and follow the sounds kids are already learning to blend. Start with the CVC words. Say the word slowly, stretch out each sound, then write the letter for each one. The handful of sight words at the end (the, and, see, go, is) show up so often that it helps to memorize them by shape.

A minute a day beats a long session once a week. Read a word, cover it, spell it, then check. When your child gets one wrong, don’t just fix it. Sound it out together so the correction teaches the pattern, not just the answer.
